Our Work in Afghanistan and Pakistan

At the center of the global fight against terrorism, Afghanistan and Pakistan face enormous challenges that undermine security, political stability, and sustainable economic growth. Decades of conflict have taken their toll in Afghanistan, ruining infrastructure, displacing millions, and increasing poppy cultivation. In Pakistan, the benefits of economic growth are being mitigated by violence and political volatility. However, growing U.S. government assistance is helping to strengthen institutions and provide viable alternatives to the drug trade.

Chemonics works closely with local governmental agencies, NGOs, and the private sector in agriculture, business development, institutional capacity building, food security, alternative development, gender, infrastructure, and other elements to recover from or prevent conflict.
